The story of the Summer that changed my life...forever.
"Make sure you call everyday to check in with me, and make SURE that your not eating fast food and pizza everyday like you do here, okay? I want you to be healthy." Healthy, I thought, my fathers nice way of saying 'make sure you exercise and dont eat greasy food so you dont get any fatter'.
"Okay dad im going to miss my flight if you keep rambling, so please just finish this up." I said impatiently. They called my flight five minutes ago, but I didnt want to upset him by running off.
"Okay, sorry sorry. I love you sugar plum. Call me when you land so i know your okay and that there wasnt any hijackings or anything." he said with a smile, that instantly faded when the tears sprang to my eyes. I choked them back and hugged him tight, suddenly realizing how much I was going to miss him. After they called my flight for he third time I let go slowly.
"Bye dad, I love you." I said, and ran off to my new life.
~~~~~~~~
I settled into my first class airplane seat and sighed. I was about to be whisked off into my new life in Florida. Well, I wasnt moving there, just for the summer, which had officially started yesterday. I was moving in with my uncle Josh. But he wasnt an older uncle, just three years older then me, making him 19. He lived right on the bottom tip of Florida, in a small beach town called Sandy Ridge. I should be excited, leaving my small life in Syracuse, to live in a town where I could wear shorts 24-7. My dad had equipted me with a credit card that he would add money too whenever i wanted. This was a teenagers dream. Except I was going to miss him, my dad. Even though he worked most of the time, hes always there for me.
But enough being sad.
This is going to be great.
I settled back in my seat on the plane and closed my eyes when my chair was shook by something.
"Oh my god im so sorry!" I opened my eyes to see a tall oriental girl. She had long waist-lenght jet black hair and milky white skin. He tiny eyes widened as she looked down at my lap, my eyes followed to see a cup of milk spilled on me.
"Im so so soooo sorry about that let me go get you a towel!" She said, without letting me get a word in. She ran to the back of the plane and emerged again with to fistsful of paper towels. She handed some to me and we started to clean up the mess.
"Im so sorry, again." She said.
"Its no big deal, dont worry about it." I said. Then I thought about how we were obviosly flying to the same place, and it would be nice to have at least ONE friend.
"Whats your name?" I asked. She looked up and smiled.
"Jennifer, but you can call me Jenny, and you?"
"Im Delilah, but you can call me Dee." I smiled. She looked nice, with her soft face and gentle smile. Hopefully by the end of this flight id have a companion to enter this strange place with.
"So what brings you to Florida?" She asked me. By now my lap was pretty much milk-free and she had taken the empty seat next to me.
"Just need to get away from where I lived. New york, not the big city, just Syracuse. But its boring there, and the farthest ive ever been from there is Maine for my cousins wedding. Im gonna b living with my uncle," I realized I was rambling, "Sooo what brings you here?"
"I live there. Ive lived there my whole life. I flew out of state to New York to see my boyfriend, and now im headed back." She sighed.
"Must be hard, huh? I know its none of my bisneuss but I kinda had to go through the same kind of thing once..." I stopped talking. I wasnt going to talk about this with a stranger.
"Yeah, its okay, it is. He used to live down here too but then his Dad got a job up there that he had too take...but next year when he turns 18, hes gonna move back, just to be with me. Isnt that just so sweet?" She asked. I nodded and smiled.
If everyone in this town was as nice as Jenny, then im sure im going to like it there.
